My stay at the Sofitel Nile El Gezirah during the Cairo International Film Festival was nothing short of spectacular. This hotel was a pleasure to stay at and when I return I’ll be staying there again. Here are just some of the things I want you to know:
Location, Location, Location: Situated at the tip of “the island,” (they call this part of Cairo The Island) the Sofitel has the best views of the Nile. The sunsets from my room were simply magical, something that you really have to be there to experience, but for now here is a photo for you to enjoy.
Service Beyond Compare: From the moment I arrived, I was treated like VIP. The staff were incredibly attentive and went above and beyond to ensure my comfort and need was accamodated. And let me tell you, having my room organized each day was a delightful surprise – a level of service I rarely experience! They continually checked on me and was really wanting to make my experience with them the absolute best, and they did exactly that.
Food Adventure: Sofitel has a wonderful set of restaurants that cater to a wide range of tastes that even the fussiest people will love. There really is something for everyone at all the restaurants. Options are always a plus when I travel for a long period as the food can become boring. My favorite dining experience was the private Nile cruise, organized by the concierge. It was the best food I’ve ever had – the food from Kebagby Restaurant! Imagine tender meats, fragrant rice and an assortment of other delights. There really was enough food for a dinner party.
Adventures: I’ve already spoke about the private Nile Cruise above. Let’s finish that up with letting you know that our boat captain and his mate turned the cruise into a dance party with tambourines and drums — they even let us steer the boat a little! I really did feel like Cleopatra riding down the Nile.
Other excursions: Egyptian Museum in Cairo where I was able to see the Tutankhamun’s exhibit, a tour of the new museum, The Egyptian Grand Museum, located next to the Giza Pyramids. The Giza Pyramids where I checked off another bucket list item and rode a camel. I visited the Khan el-Khalili a famous bazaar (market) where I was ablet to get some gifts and experience a silver jeweler who someone referred me to. That’s a whole other story for another time.
CIFF Hub: As the official hotel partner of the Cairo International Film Festival, the Sofitel was buzzing with energy. It was a thrill to be surrounded by filmmakers, actors, and industry professionals, creating a truly unique and memorable atmosphere. They made travel back and forth to movie theatres easy for everyone staying at the hotel with the coordination of the festival car service.
Finally, Safety: Before my trip, many people expressed concerns about safety in Egypt. However, I can confidently say that the Sofitel Nile El Gezirah provided a secure environment throughout my stay.
They take your safety and security very seriously, implementing stringent measures to ensure the safety of its guests. Every vehicle entering the property undergoes a thorough inspection by military police, including canine units and trunk checks. Talk about a feeling of reassurance. The Sofitel Nile El Gezirah is undoubtedly a haven of safety and tranquility in this very busy city.
Final Verdict: The Sofitel Nile El Gezirah provided the perfect blend of luxury, comfort, and exceptional service. It was the ideal base for my CIFF experience, and I can’t wait to return. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone jetting off to experience the magical world of Egypt.
