Daintree is one of Manhattan’s snazziest, new rooftop cocktail bars with killer city views. It was opened in 2021, but in just a year, it has become quite the ‘talk of the town’ with its eclectic Aussie-inspired menu and absolutely stunning ambiance.
Located at 25 W 38th Street, this place is actually a part of Hotel Hendricks. Though it’s perfect for a date night, Daintree can also be a great option if you want to just hang out with your friends or have a laidback lunch with your colleagues.
Food and Drinks
When it comes to drinks, what this place is really known for is its inspiring collection of cocktails, especially their contemporary versions of New York classics. What’s not to be missed is their fine collection of Martinis and a wine list with distinctly Australian accents.
It would be a crime not to try the Tropic Thunder, one of their top sellers. It’s a mix of ‘Suntory Toki Whiskey, pineapple rum, Amaro Montenegro, banana, and toasted coconut.’ The drinks will arrive with a bowl of complimentary chicken salt and seaweed popcorn, which is a cute gesture!
The food menu isn’t elaborate, but it is very well curated. What’s being served is more like ‘bar snacks and small plates’ rather than a proper meal. We particularly liked their half-dozen Beau Soleil oysters, whipped ricotta with pistachio chili crisp and focaccia, and herbed lobster roll.
Ambiance
As soon as you step inside the place, you are greeted by a gorgeous, unrestricted view of the Empire State Building, which is the highlight of this bar and lounge. There is an indoor sitting area, and there’s an outdoor terrace space as well. You don’t necessarily need to be in the terrace area to admire the view. You can enjoy the view through the glass windows even while sitting inside.
The interiors are done tastefully, with lots of leafy potted plants everywhere, giving the space a fresh and vibrant look. Tumbling vines, comfortable, bright-colored furniture, warm lights, and wall windows create a relaxing yet stylish environment. The lounge ‘looks’ upscale but ‘feels’ homey. Maybe it has something to do with their excellent service! Our servers were warm and friendly right from the beginning, even though it was one of their busiest hours.
