Taste of Italy, an evening of authentic Italian food, wine, and entertainment to benefit the Italian American Museum of Los Angeles (IAMLA), will take place from 5 – 10 p.m. on October 13 in downtown Los Angeles (424 North Main Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012).

Banfi

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Taste of Italy showcases the region’s top restaurants, world-class wineries, live entertainment and celebrated chefs. Among the over 40 participants are Drago Centro, Luigi Al Teatro, Di Stefano Cheese, Prova Pizzeria, Planeta, Via Alloro, San Antonio Winery, Fernet Branca, Banfi, Grom, Prosciutto di Parma, Prince of Venice, Little Jewel of New Orleans and Celestino.

“Taste of Italy offers an authentic Italian experience in the heart of downtown Los Angeles,” explains Marianna Gatto, historian and executive director of the IAMLA, comments “Guests can enjoy exceptional Italian cuisine, wine, and good cheer in a charming, historic setting. Taste of Italy offers a glimpse of the region’s extensive Italian history and contemporary Italian lifestyle while supporting the Italian American Museum of Los Angeles.”

Celestino

This year’s event will highlight the southern Italian region of Puglia, the “heel” of Italy’s “boot,” and now one of the country’s trendiest tourist destinations, known for its ancient villages, exceptional wines and olive oils, breathtaking beaches, year-round sunshine and exceptional cuisine.

Luigi Fineo, head of Santa Monica-based Luigi al Teatro, and is the nation’s youngest chef to earn the Michelin Star, will present a modern interpretation of classic Pugliese flavors. Another Puglia native, cheese maker Mimmo Bruno was the first artisan in the United States to recreate Burrata. Today, he handcrafts the delicacy at his family-owned company Di Stefano Cheese. Using its authentic, 100-year-old recipe, which traces its roots to Puglia and the family of award-winning pizzaiolo Vito Iacopelli, West Hollywood’s Prova will also prepare its signature pizzas cooked in a wood-burning oven.

Di Stefano Cheese

Dozens of world-class wines and spirits will be served by participants, including Gruppo I Vinai, Pallino Limoncello, Banfi and DOCG Imports. There will be a beer garden by Italy’s signature beer Birra Moretti. Guests will also be invited to try their luck at a game of bocce.

This year’s entertainment lineup includes performances by celebrated jazz guitarist John Pisano, Nick D’Egidio and the Dry Martini Orchestra, the fifteen-member Verdi Chorus and DJLo.

DJLo

On the evening of the event, the Italian American Museum of Los Angeles, located at 644 North Main Street, will remain open until 7 pm. Admission to the museum is free, however, donations are encouraged.
